What Courses does my Home School High School Student Need?

Academic Advising for Home School Students

~Ron Wollenhaupt, MA, ATC, CSCS

Academic Advisor

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ron Wollenhaupt, the academic advisor for ABBA Homeschool Academy. I can help you and your student with advisement needs. I am a college professor, and have advised many students on their path to their diploma. Let me talk about a couple of things when it comes to deciding which courses to take. Each state has their individual requirements. You should be familiar with your state’s requirements, and have a copy on file. High Schools in the United States are very similar. A total of at least 24 credits are needed to graduate from high school here at ABBA Homeschool Academy.

College bound students should have 24-25 credits and the progress should look like this;

Core Curriculum (included in cost of tuition) consists of:

English 4 credits

Math 4 credits

Social studies 4 credits

Science 4 credits

Bible 4 credits

Electives (not included in cost of tuition) need to include:

Foreign language 1-3 credits

Health/Physical Education 2 credits

Fine or performing arts 1 credit

Electives (of students choosing) 1 credit

Most colleges in America now require at least 1 hour of Foreign Language. We have a variety of Foreign Language courses for our students. Your student can take more electives if they choose. I will be happy to communicate with each of you concerning your selections each year, and look forward to getting to know everyone of you. Please feel free to call me with any questions at (620) 223-3434. Our office hours are M-F 8:00 – 5:00 p.m.
